Will I ever outgrow this acne??

It is very common for most people to assume that acne only
affects teens. Sadly, that is not true. Dermatologists have
noticed more adults coming to their office for acne solutions.
In fact, adult acne affects 50% of women and 25% of men.

Adult acne is the same type of acne which teens suffer through.
The hormones that affect teens as they progress into puberty are
the same sex hormones that may act up again in adults. These
hormones cause excess oil production thus causing acne. Other
causes could be due to pregnancy, poor diet, stress, and/or
medications.

Not only is having adult acne embarrassing for most, but the
adult skin is more likely to produce scarring than in teens
because older skin produces less collagen. There is however
options to take that can diminish these scars (see the acne scar
section).

The positive side to having acne as an adult is the fact that
adults are more likely to take the situation more seriously and
keep a strict regimen - making success much more possible.
Adults will also take more responsibility with getting
themselves to the dermatologist and affording the medications.
Even though most effective acne products are not expensive it
may not be concerns for some parents to get involved with
helping their teens combat their acne.

Another positive side to adult acne is that now that both
dermatologists and older acne suffers know that it’s a very
common issue, more solutions will be provided. But for the most
part acne products for teens can also be used for adults.
